Barry Moskowitz: Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau Vice President

Barry Moskowitz, Vice-President, at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau talks about the challenges that someone in his position would face.

1. What activities do you perform on a daily and weekly basis?

In my position, every day is different, and no two days are the same. My main mission is to promote and represent the city to bring positive economic value to the city. I focus on events such as award shows, conventions, sporting events, holiday events, and music events. When you bring economic impact to the community, you have an opportunity to create jobs.

2. What are some of the challenges that someone in your current position would face?

I would say politics is always in the forefront when it comes to challenges. When you try to bring events to the city, it can be tough to keep everyone on the same page. There are so many pieces to the puzzle, but at the same time people have their own agenda as well. Another challenge is educating everyone involved on what you are trying to accomplish.

3. In your current position, how do you impact the company’s goals and performance?

The goal is to bring in events that will have a positive economic impact on the city. I do that by working with various groups throughout the community and deciding if we can host an event.

4. In your opinion, how long has it taken to understand your current position and responsibilities?

I grew into this role; I came from the hotel industry. At the same time, I feel you can always learn something every day and get better at what you do.
